Business Trips

Erik goes on a business trip every other month-ish.  Every time he goes we play around briefly with the idea of me going with him, realize we're looking at a $500 plane ticket for me to see him for 2 hours in the evening before it's time to go to bed, and I send Erik off and settle in for three or four days of hanging out with the Housewives of Wisteria Lane.  Whenever he leaves I try to do a house project.  It keeps me busy, plus it's just easier to live in the chaos of a project when it's just me.

In July Erik went to Denver.  In July I made over our closet.  Our closet is really cute now, which is great, but also totally and completely pointless, because unless I invite guests over to have dinner in the closet, no one will ever see it.  So there's like 20 hours of my life I can never have back.  I switched out all my hangers from plastic to velvet, which was actually huge.  It freed up a ton of space, plus it looks so much more uniform.  I painted the walls from beige to gray, the ceiling from beige to white, and stenciled a quatrefoil-ish pattern in a darker gray.  Mostly I wanted to test out stenciling somewhere unimportant to decide if I wanted to do it in my laundry room.  Turns out I do not, so my laundry room is still ugly,  but hey, let's take a look at that closet.
This is before.  Not horrible, but kinda messy and the beige made me look like I had jaundice.
This is after I painted but before I stenciled.  It looks a little purple in this picture but it really is grey.

Here is an after.  See all my matchy hangers?  Love them.

So yeah, that was that.  Today I'm putting away all my summer clothes and getting out my sweaters.  yay fall!

Last week Erik went on a business trip to Vegas.  My project this time is probably my favorite thing we've done to the house besides wall boxes in the music room.  I painted all the doors on our upstairs floor black.  I'd seen it on Pinterest, and was about 80% sure I would like it (Erik was about 20% sure he would like it, but there wasn't much he could do about it from Vegas).  I pretty much love them.

Before.  There's nothing wrong with them, just kinda boring

This is the picture I sent to Erik to show him I was right

I painted both sides of the doors, and it took one episode of Desperate Housewives per door.  Overall about a 12 hour project, and unlike the closet, people will see it.  Door project > closet project.

On an unrelated note, do people still wear puffy vests?  I have like 3 and as I transition my closet I'm wondering if those are still a thing.
